We are the Martin County Humane Society - also known as the Carl Nettifee Memorial Animal Shelter. As an animal control officer in Fairmont many years ago, Carl pioneered the ideals of which we operate. The City of Fairmont and the Martin County Humane Society constructed the shelter in Carl's honor. We shelter stray and homeless animals in Martin County and take owner surrenders as space allows.
Carl was quoted in the Sentinel on May 25, 1985, "This is a pretty good job, I enjoy it, but I guess I've always like animals. When I was a kid I'd always come home with stray dogs or things like that." We are honored to carry on his love of animals.
